Wild Action Zoo

During the last week of term we had our favourite visitors from the Wild Action Zoo. Wild Action was established in 1994 and for over 16 years has been providing interactive high quality environmental incursions throughout Victoria.

Aimee our presenter arrived a little late but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm.  Aimee is part of the wild Action team that is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and show casing Australia's rich biodiversity.  The collection of animals consists of many rare and endangered creatures.  All of their animals are hand reared and amenable to handling, and provide for a unique and exceptional wildlife encounter.

There was lots of excitement, laughter and fun helping to alleviate any initial fears (especially from the teachers and mums).  Particular emphasis was placed on the animals body coverings and basic information about their diets and habitats were discussed.  Everyone had the opportunity to touch each of the animals and have their photo taken with one special animal. Even our brave chairperson Chiara took the opportunity to hold one of these wonderful animals.  I don't know who was more scared Chiara or Julius.

Incursions like these are an invaluable resource that allows our children to have access to opportunities they may not otherwise be available to them. They not only learn about things specific to the presentation but it allows them to interact with different adults and adjust to new situations.

Stumpy Bumpy was very friendly and didn't even mind when said, "Hello", to his bottom instead of his head and we were very glad he couldn't run very fast.

Bumpy Stumpy was very slow but not Monica the monitor she was really wriggly and took a lot of holding onto.

Thankfully this long neck Aussie turtle slowed down the pace again. He was the perfect friend for all those friends who weren't to keen to have their photos taken.

I think the favorite of the day was Freddo the green tree frog. He enjoyed sitting on our heads and who would have believed a frog could be 20 years old!!!

Now here's one for only the bravest kinder friends - Olive the olive python is only a teenager.  I wonder how big she'll be when she is as old as Mrs. Phillpotts?

Lastly Julius, Mrs Murray favorite - he'll soon be big enough for a pair of shoes or perhaps a handbag!

Aimee was very entertaining and informative and a great time was had by all.

  1. What a wonderful day the children had and it was talked about regularly over the following weeks. We can not wait for the upcoming gymnastics excursion as I have a very keen gymnast. It is great to see that in Kindergarten the children can enjoy different excursions at the centre and away from it in the local area.
