Strong Foundations Conference

Today, just after 7am, all the staff at East Sale Kindergarten ventured off to Warragul to attend the annual UnitingCare Gippsland - Strong Foundations In Early Childhood Education Conference.

 

Attending the conference, was a wonderful opportunity for our staff to network with other professionals & to hear from a wide variety of speakers on a diverse range of topics.

 

Our MC for the day was Libbi Gorr - ABC Radio - who brought a wonderful candour & humour to the day AND our Morning Guest Speaker was Professor Margaret Sims who spoke about her research interest focussed around quality community-based services for children & families.

 

Morning Concurrent Sessions were held prior to morning tea - Shirley attended Planning for Resilience with Professor Margaret Sims; Rosanna & Kim attended Music In An Inclusive Environment with Louise Dorrat & Denise attended Learning Stones Project with John Murray.

 

Afternoon Concurrent Sessions were held after lunch - Shirley & Kim attended Embedding Quality with Catharine Hydon; Rosanna attended Building Children's Resilience with Louise Dorrat & Denise attended Creating A Circle Of Security with Jenny Enter & Sara Janssen.

 

Each of the concurrent sessions provided staff with a mixture of ideas & concepts to reflect on in our daily practice as Early Childhood Educators. In fact, quite a bit of that reflection & discussion about the day took place on the journey back home! *grin*

 

Our Afternoon Keynote Speaker was Michael Grose who spoke most entertainingly about Parenting & Raising Kids To Thrive. I've included some information about Michael's website at the bottom of this post as I believe a number of our families might find it very useful.

 

Following the Panel Discussion, Evaluation & Farewell we all then made the journey back home, arriving in Sale at about 6pm. It had been a wonderful (but long) day of socialisation, networking, information & reflection AND we all look forward to introducing aspects from it all into our daily work here at East Sale Kindergarten!

OPEN DAY!

Come along to East Sale Kindergarten on Tuesday July 30 & see why our spacious outdoor playground & our wonderful learning environment will be the perfect place for your child's Kindergarten experience.

 

Staff from both the 3 & 4 Year Old Programs will be available to show you around our fantastic facilities, to answer any of your questions & most importantly - to give you enrolment information so that your child can be enrolled for our 2014 Kindergarten Programs.

 

PLEASE NOTE - Enrolments for 2014 are now OPEN & will be accepted until August 31 - please see our ENROLMENT conditions for more information.

 

Our OPEN DAY will commence at 9am & run until 2pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge

Did you know that The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open to children of all ages!

Families & Early Childhood Professionals are being encouraged to share the joy of reading with young children EVERY DAY!

The challenge for young children is to read 40 books – or have 40 books read to them! Children who successfully complete the Challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement at the end of the year & have the opportunity to have their names published on the Achievers Honour Roll in 'The Age' newspaper.

SneezeSafe

Today the children in our 4 Year Old Program learnt about how to be 'SneezeSafe'. You can actually find out more information about SneezeSafe by visiting here!

 

Did you know that when you sneeze, an irritation inside your nose can actually come flying out of your nose at more than 160km per hour! No wonder germs can spread so easily at that kind of force!

 

We learnt how to stop the spread of Cold & Flu by following 3 simple steps:

CATCH IT

Germs spread easily. Always use a tissue to catch your cough & sneezes.

BIN IT

Germs live on tissues for several house. Throw the tissue away immediately.

KILL IT

Hands transfer germs. Wash your hands as soon as possible.

 

At the end of learning all about being SneezeSafe, the children were given some information to take home for Mum & Dad to read, a Travel Pack of Kleenex Tissues & a SneezeSafe Sticker!

RAAF Excursion

After months of planning & excitement - the day had finally come! Our excursion to visit the RAAF Fire Station & also the RAAF Central Flying School (CFS) was held today BUT unfortunately Mother Nature wasn't on our side with rain & flash flooding forecast as well!

 

Nonetheless, we decided to go ahead with our excursion - we all rugged up, coats & beanies, scarves & jackets and headed out aboard our bus & had a simply fantastic day! For our  4 Year Old families at East Sale Kindergarten, make sure you check out our 'Learning Journal' entry for this week as we'll provide more detail & photos on exactly what the children got to do & see in there!

 

First stop was the RAAF Fire Station! With a brand new Fire Truck only delivered last week, we were one of the first to get the grand tour of it's fantastic features! The children were most impressed by the size of it!

 

After boarding the bus again, we travelled to the Central Flying School (CFS) where we were shown all the special things that a pilot wears, all their safety gear AND then the most exciting thing happened . . . we all walked out to one of the aeroplane hangers & got to look at a Roulette up close & personal! So close in fact that we even got to climb onto the wing of one & look inside where the pilot sits!

 

 

What a simply amazing day we had, despite the terrible weather. I'm sure that the children's excitement & interest in all they saw & learnt will flow over into the remaining weeks of this term as we reflect on the day & look to extend their learning opportunities at the same time!

Sale Greyhounds BINGO Night

On behalf of the East Sale Kindergarten Family Group we would like to extend a very big thankyou to everyone who supported our raffle at the Sale Greyhounds Bingo Night on Monday. We really appreciate the efforts of families who donated items, asked businesses for donations & also those who attended the evening. The Bingo evening was a big success for East Sale Kindergarten with over seven hundred of dollars being raised & owe also had one of our 3 Year Old families having a big BINGO win too! Congratulations!

 

We were absolutely overwhelmed by the amount  of donations received. We were able to put together a fantastic raffle table and still have a few prizes left over for use for other fundraisers later in the year!

Rethink Sugary Drink allows you to make sugar comparisons of your favourite drinks & see exactly how much sugar is in them! I must admit I was quite surprised to see what is listed for a can of SOLO! Oh my goodness!
